  1. When should I start collecting the documents to extend my temporary residence permit?
    We recommend that you start obtaining the necessary documents at least 2 to 3 months before you current residence permit expires.

It’s better to start even sooner – 4 to 6 months before because it takes longer for the Migration Department to make decisions.

  1. What is the stamp duty charged for extending a temporary residence permit?
  • Normally, it’s EUR 160
    • If it is an urgent procedure, it’s EUR 320

Please note: you make the payment when visiting the Migration Department. Please make sure your bank account balance is sufficient.

  1. Which documents are necessary to extend my temporary residence permit in Lithuania?
    • Application filled in via MIGRIS;
    • Copy of your passport (your passport must be valid for at least 2 years);
    • Recommendation letter from your employer (submitted via MIGRIS);
    • Your profile stating all your employers after your graduation, as well as details of your education and military service (only applicable to nationals of Russia and Belarus);
    • Valid temporary residence permit in Lithuania;
    • Driving licence;
    • Code 95.
  2. What are the most common questions asked by the Migration Service when extending a temporary residence permit?
    • It’s important to name all your employers, jobs and employment periods after your graduation.
    • Starting from January 2026, most nationals of the Republic of Belarus must provide a copy of their employment record book and military service book accompanied with their translations into Lithuania.

    To request a salary statement, you must specify as follows:
  1. Type of statement required (statement of salary payments / statement of salary and compensations (daily allowances));
  2. Language, in which the statement is to be drawn up (LT, RU, EN);
  3. Period, for which the statement is to be drawn up.
  1. How long does it take to issue a statement?
    Statements are drawn up within 10 business days.
