Telepass SAT: Comprehensive User Manual
This manual is a single comprehensive source of information for drivers of commercial vehicles. It is intended to provide clear instructions for installation, set-up and safe use of the on-board unit (OBU) Telepass SAT to secure the correct payment of road tolls and its uninterrupted operation on the way.
Key safety warnings
Compliance with safety regulations is critical for OBU’s uninterrupted operation, your personal safety and preventing road accidents. Strictly follow the directives below.
Tampering with the unit: Opening, dismantling or any modification of the on-board unit structure are strictly prohibited. Any tampering with the unit may result in an irreversible breakage and warranty cancellation.
Using third-party accessories: Only use the accessories (power cable, fixture) that are part of the original delivery package. Applying incompatible or non-original components may lead to unit malfunctions or damage the unit.
Moisture penetration: Protect the unit from water, condensate and any other liquids. Moisture penetration may cause a short circuit and unit failure.
Handling the OBU when driving: Do not perform any action with the unit (set up, view the menu) when driving the vehicle. All necessary OBU configurations must be set up before taking to the road.
Device placement: Do not install the device in any area where it can limit driver’s vision or hamper airbag actuation.

2.0 OBU scope of delivery and description
In this section, you will discover the components within the unit’s scope of delivery and the key controls of the on-board unit itself.

Telepass SAT unit: The main module for data processing and transacting.
Power cable: It is intended to connect the unit to the vehicle’s network through the cigarette lighter port.
Suction cup holder: Securely attaches the OBU to the windscreen.

Knowing these controls is mandatory for correct installation and set-up, which is key for the correct operation of the entire system.
3.0 OBU installation and connection
Correct installation is the cornerstone of the stable reception of satellite system (GPS/GNSS) signals and therefore, ensuring accurate charges for using toll roads.
Step-by-step installation instructions
Clean the surface: Carefully clean and degrease the inner windscreen surface in the proposed installation area. The surface must be totally dry.
Choose the installation spot: The best practice is to install the unit behind the rear-view mirror. This position does not hamper driver’s vision and secures the best signal reception. Important: Place the unit at least 10 cm away from any metal body parts.
Assemble the fixture: Press the suction cup holder into the OBU until it clicks.
Attach the OBU to the windscreen: To ensure secure attachment, press the suction cup firmly against the clean windscreen.
Connection to the power source
After the unit has been attached to the windscreen, connect one power cable end to the corresponding port in OBU’s body, and the other one – to the cigarette lighter socket (supported voltage – 12/24Vdc).
After OBU has been physically installed and connected to the power source, perform the initial set-up.
4.0 Initial set-up and configuration
The unit correctly configured before the journey secures accurate tolling in accordance with your vehicle’s parameters.
Set up the number of axles
To open the set-up menu, press the confirmation button (✓).
Use (▲) и (▼) buttons to select the right number of axles in your truck train.
To save the selected value, press the confirmation button (✓).
Select the vehicle (for Toll Collect only)
This feature is intended solely to be used with the German tolling system Toll Collect. It allows selecting the appropriate vehicle if the unit is used on more than one vehicle registered with Toll Collect.
To open the vehicle selection menu, press and hold down the cancellation/scroll button (X) over 3 seconds.
Use (▲) и (▼) buttons to scroll through the list of available state registration plate numbers.
When you find your current vehicle’s plate number, press the confirmation button (✓) to select it

5.0 Daily operation: signals and indicators
Lights and sounds are the key methods for communications between the OBU and the driver. Understanding them correctly is critical to monitoring the system state and accuracy of toll payments.
LED indications

| Yellow | The unit is operational, but E-toll payment is deactivated. This unit is on, but the E-toll payment is disabled for the current region. | You may continue your journey, if your route comprises no toll roads that require the E-toll payment service to be active. |
| Red | Malfunction. The device failed, or a transaction error occurred. | Contact the Support immediately to troubleshoot and eliminate the issue. |
Sounds signals
Sound signals inform of a transaction result when passing through a toll point.

| No sound | The service is deactivated. | The unit is in its stand-by mode (yellow light), no payment is made. |
Regular unit status checks before the journey are mandatory for each driver.
6.0 Mandatory check before the journey
Departure checks of the unit are an integral part of driver’s professional responsibility. They allow securing that the toll payment system is fully ready for operation before taking to the road.
Checklist before the journey
Connection check: Check that the power cable is firmly inserted, and the device is powered (the LED light is green or yellow).
Service activation check: Make sure the unit screen displays the service required for your route (e.g., Viapass for a journey across Belarus, as shown on the picture).
Operability check: Wait until the initialisation procedure is complete. The LED light must be green (the service is active) or yellow (the service is deactived). The red LED light is not acceptable.
Vehicle data check: Make sure that the screen displays the correct state registration plate number of your vehicle.

7.0 Troubleshooting
This section comprises instructions on how to act if most common malfunctions that require driver’s immediate attention occur.
LED light is red
If the LED light is red, a malfunction has occurred. Contact the Technical Support immediately following the instructions in the next section.
