However, only the father and the mother are granted two non transferable months of childcare leave each, which cannot be transferred to anyone else during this leave. This means that if the mother and father of the child do not take this two-month leave, the childcare leave is shortened to 16 or 22 months (instead of 18 or 24 months) and no benefits are paid for these two months of the leave.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When is this leave granted?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This leave can be granted immediately after the end of pregnancy and maternity leave (or at any time later) and last until the child turns 3 years old. Except for the non-transferable months of childcare leave, which can be granted at any time until the child turns 18 or 24 months old, depending on the period of benefits for childcare leave you have chosen. It is important to know that when one parent takes two non-transferable months of leave, the other parent cannot simply not work and is required to cancel the childcare leave and officially return to work. For this reason, it is most convenient when, for example, the mother takes two non transferable months immediately after the end of pregnancy and maternity leave, and the father takes the childcare leave at the end, when the mother is about to return to work after 18 or 24 months, depending on the period of benefits the mother has chosen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can this leave be taken in parts?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, this leave can be taken all at once, in parts or alternately. However, there is an important rule that both parents cannot take a part of the non transferable two-month childcare leave at the same time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to take this leave?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This leave can only be taken (or returning to work before the end of this leave is possible) after giving the Employer a written notice no later than 14 calendar days in advance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Am I entitled to any benefits?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You are only entitled to the benefit during the first two years of this leave. You are no longer entitled to the benefit during third year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can I work?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, but you must notify your Employer about your decision first; should you decide to stop working and proceed with taking the leave at a later time, you would need to submit an application to the Employer for granting childcare leave. In turn, the Employer must provide the necessary information about your leave to Sodra, even if you do not receive a benefit from Sodra.<\/p>\n<p>In summary, it is important to remember that you can take a childcare leave for the following periods:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; 18 months, for which you would receive a higher childcare benefit from Sodra throughout this period;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; 24 months, for which you would receive different childcare benefits from Sodra: a higher amount during the first year and a lower amount during in the second year;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; for 3 years, but in this case you would be able to receive benefits from Sodra for two years only, no benefits would be paid to you during the last third year.
